Abhijeet Sawant: Desperately trying to act | 2008-06-30
But with a film script that resembles Mimoh's debut flick!
Indian Idol winner Abhijeet Sawant claims that he‘s all set to change his ‘romantic‘ (???) image with ‘Lottery‘ which marks his acting debut. This ‘Lottery‘ is basically a B-Grade flick with some skin show poured in to attract the masses! The Bitch meant the skin would be shown by the actresses in the film and not by the lukkha Abhijeet Sawant. So relax!
He says the film is a thriller which no one would expect from him. Yeah yeah, Abhijeet, we basically don‘t expect anything from you.
But you really intrigued The Bitch who found out that your debut vehicle is just another version of 2008‘s biggest turkey till now, the Mimoh starrer ‘Jimmy‘!
The Bitch has her jaasoos everywhere and he revealed to her that ‘Lottery‘ has Abhijeet playing a poor accountant working in a Fashion Magazine who gets embroiled in a murder which he hasn‘t committed. So off he runs from kaanoon ke lambe haath to nab the real culprit and prove his innocence. Amidst all this he gets ample time to sing and dance and romance two new big screen debutantes- Rucha Gujarati and Manisha Kelkar.
The size zero (literally) singer turned actor further boasts that this ‘Lottery‘ was not the first film any fool offered him. "I was flooded with many acting offers with me in the lead role immediately after my ‘Indian Idol‘ win. But I lacked the confidence to play a lead role in films at that time," he says!
Then why the hell did you sign ‘Lottery‘, dude? To bankrupt the producers, huh? "Well, when I met director Hemant Prabhu around a year ago, he told me about the script he had with me in mind. He managed to convince me how I suited the role perfectly. I too realized that the character was pretty close to my real off-screen nature and I would be very comfortable performing it," he replies.
But then you must have realized acting is not a piece of cake for any and everyone! "To some extent I had my inhibitions initially but as the shooting progressed my growth as an actor started happening and everybody who saw it loved it and were surprised,"he added.
Apart from ‘Lottery‘, Abhijeet is considering a couple of more acting offers, but he hasn‘t finalized anything as yet. The Bitch would like to advise him to sign on the dotted line for these immediately or else once your ‘Lottery‘ releases, all those wishing to have you in their films will vanish!
So is he turning full time actor now? He retorts, "No singing shall always remain my priority. I‘m extremely passionate about it. My two upcoming singing projects are ‘Care of Footpath‘ and ‘Mumbai.com‘."
Don‘t they all say that? Now just look at Himesh! During the time he was making his acting debut he also said that music will always be his first priority. But after the accidental hit ‘Aap Ka Suroor‘, he has made a rule that he‘ll only give music to films for which he‘s signed as the lead!
There‘s huge possibility of Abhijeet behaving similarly if he too gets an unwarranted chance like that!
