And The Award Goes To... |  2009-01-11

Why should Slumdog Millionaire be grateful to Subhash Ghai?

They forgot to thank the man himself! Subhash Ghai is an unlucky man. Pretty darn unlucky!

News is that a song he found comme ci comme sa for his film ‘Yuvvraaj‘ has made it to the Oscar favorites via ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘.

What does he have to say about ‘Jai Ho‘- a song originally meant as Zayed Khan‘s entry number in ‘Yuvvraaj‘?

That would have made the song ‘Kalyan Ho‘.

"I happily gave the ‘Jai Ho‘ song to Rahman when he said it was needed for Danny Boyle‘s film. I felt the song was slightly too soft and subtle for the aggressive character (Zayed Khan in Yuvvraaj). I‘m glad they could use it."

Guess he hasn‘t heard it? It‘s a tub-thumping, rabble rousing, grist for the music mills number. Both he and Zayed would have definitely killed it in ‘Yuvvraaj‘.

Regrets? Naah, you gotta be kidding!

Here‘s how the Show-off-man braves it.

"None at all. Every film and every song has its own destiny. That song was meant to be in ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘. I‘m just happy that a Hindi song is being noticed, heard and hummed in the US by non-NRI audiences."

But why isn‘t he sulking?

"Look at M.F. Husain saab‘s generosity. He called me up all the way from Dubai to say he loved ‘Yuvvraaj‘. After the battering that it got his words came as balm to my soul, especially when Husain saab said he saw the film twice and liked it even better the second time."

Seems like awards don‘t matter to Ghai! How could it? M F Husain admitted to seeing the disastrous ‘Yuvvraaj‘ twice, perhaps only since he needed two sittings to understand that the hell he was into!

Didn‘t Husain saab watch ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun‘ like 3000000000 times because he could never figure out what he was after?

Every time the catapult struck Mads‘ bum for ‘Didi tera devar‘, he would rewind, since it just didn‘t hit the right spot we hear. He suggested Salman hurl a brick.

Poor M F Husain, he was watching ‘Yuvvraaj‘ repeatedly to hear the violin weep and howl in the mechanized hands of Kats!

How he fools the filmy lot. He must have called Ghai and was gasping for breath on the phone and lo, the showman hears praise transmitting into his sonic ears.

Ghai‘s loss is Rahman and Gulzar saab‘s gain, who penned it.

The song is in the best song category at the Academy Awards. It has also fetched the Los Angeles Critics Choice Award for best score and has been nominated for the New York Critics Choice Award. The Golden Globe has been won even as you are reading this.

Rahman offers more. "For the people of India to get an Oscar is a big thing. So for their sake, more than mine, I hope my song ‘Jai ho‘ and my music score in ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘ wins the Oscar."

This brings The Bitch to mull over it. Had the song been in ‘Yuvvraaj‘ would anybody notice? Forget awards.

Thank God it went to ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘. More jai-jai to that!

Whatever bitch

who cares where the song came from? we‘re all just happy that indians have been recognized on such a large scale via this movie. why would you wanna create a whole article out of this tiny issue? seems u couldn‘t find anything to bitch about involving this movie so u created a huge article about the song thing thats not even worth contemplating! trust bitch to try put a damper on this happy occasion! Jeez how retarded are you bitch! stop posting useless crap and trying to create tension. For once just try to be human and be happy for indians. | meera

Arrey why is that "Indian", we are the "Great Indians" thing which is showing up everytime. This is a Danny boyle Movie and Indians have contributed to it. Don‘t try to own it. Why don‘t full Indian Movies like Lagaan, X, Y,Z ... make a mark, even in the overseas our movies make it big only with the Desi Audience, no one else is interested. To top it all this story again puts INDIA in a badlight with INDIANS still being considered as the poverty ridden bunch.  | Dhoomal

Shutup Dhoomal no one cares about your racists opinion. It is an Indian movie since its based in India and the story is about Indians...get it? No one is undermining Danny Boyle but the fact remains that the story is based on and the novel by the Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup.. Danny Boyle is a great director and he is very much appreciated..it‘s thanks to him that the indians casts has achieved this recognition. So what if other movies in hindi didnt win international awards? We don‘t need an International award to prove that our movies are great....we aint that insecure and we already know that our movies are the best ever. But it‘s nice though if a movie based in India with Indian casts gets recogized internationally...nothing wrong with being happy for the recognition and appreciation of the international audience. And for your information, Indian movies has a huge audience apart from just the desi audiences...you only need to check out the actors and actresses fan forums to see their massive international fan bases from all over the world but your probably too dumb to do that. We are happy that indians have been recognized internationally and if the movie hadnt won, that would‘nt have made a difference but as I said if we get the appreciation then why not be thankful, appreciate it and be happy? Its a proud moment for Indians that a movie with whole Indian cast has won so many awards. So for your sake Dhoomal I‘d suggest that you stop trying act extra smart with all your smartass comments because you‘re only making yourself look stupid. It‘s obvious your not Indian so don‘t even try to fool anyone. Go cry elsewhere you jealous freak.  | !

A.R. Rahman won a Golden Globe

Bollywood‘s A.R. Rahman won a Golden Globe for his score in Danny Boyle‘s "Slumdog Millionaire" on Sunday, becoming the first Indian composer to strike gold at the annual Hollywood awards. He is golden globe winners 2009.

Shut up exclamation mark! I‘m with Dhoomal.  | Ak

I think it‘s great about the success of the movie! I have to admit I only watched to see SRK as presenter and it was great seeing him there.

Anyway, maybe everybody‘s too tough on Bollywood! The only reason why it gets so much flack is because it can be over the top, but I personally feel alot of Hollywood actors and films are pure shit. Right now the most popular people are also the most talentless ex. Brad & Angelina, two dumb ass models who can‘t act worth shit. They shouldn‘t quit their day jobs as child rearers. There are too many others to name-I could be here all day & night. I find the best Hollywood actors in US are British-Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett, etc.  | chica

My God... what is this obsession indians have to be recognized by Hollywood?? Its so demeaning... so A R Rahman won... whoop dee doo... what‘s the big deal? Hollywood doesn‘t care... and hey... most of our movies ARE Hollywood remakes anyway! So it takes a BRITISH director to make this movie and take it to Hollywood... i‘m sorry, but i also agree with Dhoomal.... have some self-respect... why should we swoon over Hollywood‘s approval... so pathetic !! | sid

CONGRATULATIONS!

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE WON 4 AWARDS! BEST PICTURE, BEST SCREENPLAY, BEST DIRECTOR, & BEST SCORE! WE INDIANS ARE SO PROUD OF EVERYONE ACCOSIATED WITH THE MOVIE! A.R. RAHMAN, DANNY BOWLE, ANIL KAPOOR, DEV PATEL, FRIEDO PINTO ETC. THANK-YOU FOR BRINGING AN INDIAN BASED MOVIE TO THE WEST!  | DESI GIRL

indian poverty

I am with Dhoomal too. The west is still into Indian poverty and yoga. They know nothing else. They think India is some tantric mumbo jumbo. I am glad for AR Rahman. The movie was good and it definitely was not salaam bombay type which was a faltu mira nair movie. SRK looked ok. He was fine but was over the top blowing kisses and telling someone he will see them later and laughing so much that we could see his nervousness. Anil Kapoor who barely acted in the movie almost molested Tom Cruise. This movie was not about India and it was not an actor‘s movie. It was a director‘s movie. It was a good movie. | ss

Dhoomal and Ak are both the same person. Hehe what a loserrr!!! I feel sorry for you! Stop being jealous of Indians and go make a name for yourself. Indians are the best and you can do nothing to change that so quit trying.  | raashi

i agree that some people like dhomal and ak are just plainly jealous of the success of indians. i think instead of wasting your time finding reasons to condemn indians you should try make your own self better. atleast indians got recognized for the movies and bollywood is known all over the world. and i agree with chica that hollywood and some hollywood folks are highly overrated...i guess thats just the way it is. but its nice that indian actors and actresses are also being recognised. just remember jealously and racism never gets u anywhere!!!!!!!!! | sheena

Losers or Non-Losers

I am not racist or jealous people. I am standing out from being emotional and blindly doing jai jai. Has anyone heard RAMIN DJAWADI‘s composition from "IRONMAN". Kindly do listen to it, the reason to mention that is there is something called as the Lobby that exists around the world and jidhar maal prospect hota hai udhar duniyaa jhuktee hai. Abhi 20th Century, Universal, Walt Disney etc.., have entered Bollywood, kindly correlate to get answers thats what is Multi Billion dollar show business about. I am not contesting against anyone‘s comments directly. My apologies but I am not blind. | Dhoomal

Goshh Dhoomal you are the dumbest person I‘ve ever come across! Just because other Indian music and movies didnt get international recognitions you want us Indians to bitch and moan and cry about it and not be happy or support the one that did get a recognition? How stupid are you?! Of course bollywood is underrated internationally and there are countless other better indian music or movies that should‘ve won or gotten a recognition but it‘s not our fault they didn‘t make it, is it? There has to be a start somewhere and we‘re just happy that slumdog has put us Indian on an international stage. It‘s loser like you who give us a bad image. You‘re only looking for reasons to degrade indians but guess what it‘s not even working stupid! All your pointless comments and reasonings are only proving our point further of how jealous and dumb you really are so go get a life!! | !

no one is obsessed with getting recognized by Hollywood but we are just happy for the fact that it has been recognized...and as someone said about it wouldnt have made a difference if it didnt as we already know that Indians are the best so whats the harm in being supportive? Get the facts right. There‘s a difference between being supportive for your people and for being obsessed. People like Dhomal are obsessed with criticizing Indians and finding every excuse in the book to condemn us. If Indians don‘t win these people go on about how bad Indian actors are, how bad our movies are..the list goes on and when Indian do win..they start moping and finding reasons why it shouldnt have won! Damn there‘s no winning with these people is there! Yes Slumdog Millionaire is directed by a British director but it is based on an INDIAN writers book and without the book there would‘nt even be a storyline to make the movie out of. Seems like these Dhomal kinds have nothing better going on in their lives so they have to make others look bad to make their pathetic lives look better. How so pathetic............ | raashi

AWESOME MOVIE!

stop fighting! just CONGRATULATE THE CAST & CREW FOR MAKING INDIANS PROUD & WE ARE ALSO THANKFUL TO DANNY BOYLE FOR PRESENTING INDIAN CINEMA INTERNATIONALLY. NOT SHOWING JUST POVERTY, UNLIKE DEEPA METHA WHO (IS INDIAN!) & SHOWS BAD THINGS ABOUT OUR COUNTRY! | rhea

loved it

I saw slumdog and thank the lord it had an ending. I was worried about seeing the movie with the western man‘s eye on Indian poverty etc but was pleasantly surprised that they stayed true to the book. Vikas Swarup has penned a good book. Can we have an interview with him please? The Amitabh Bachchan scene was so funny if you can get over the yucky part of course. The movie is all about the story and it is so well directed. Everyone acted well but I agree that this movie is not an actor‘s movie. Congratulations to AR Rahman. | kari

The cast, co-director Loveleen Tandan, music director A.R. Rahman and the Vikas Swarup‘s novel ‘Q and A‘ on which the film is based are all Indian, as is the location, Mumbai. The movie has put India on the world map and the fact that it has been acknowledged on a global platform is enough proof that the movie is Indian. So haters stop hating and get a life.  | Peace

I stand corrected... you guys are indeed pathetic !!! No this movie did not put india on the world map... i believe that happened when Ash appeared on Oprah... or when LAGAAN was nominated for an oscar!! The truth is, and you know it very well that indians are best at NOTHING... hence the hoopla over this movie winning a few insignificant awards !! Its obvious you suffer from inferiority complex and just wanna talk, walk and look like the white man. You need the white man‘s approval to make you feel better !!! Who‘re you kidding with "indians are the best" line... yeah sure indians are the best... they‘re best at making rip offs of Hollywood movies. Just look at Bollywood, 95% of movies are Hollywood remakes and the rest are pure crap !!! Get over yourselves !!!
You guys give yourselves way too much credit... but the reality is, you don‘t matter at all !!! Not to Hollywood, not to the white man and certainly not to the rest of the World !!! And yes... i‘m an NRI... i guess i just got lucky :D | sid

Look at loser Sid...jealous of Indians but still comes to the Indian sites..heheh wats a fuken pathetic loserrr. Being an NRI is no big deal u asshole...Iam an NRI aswell but the fact remains that we are Indians. No matter where you are...in uk, usa, australia, nz or whenever ppl see you they know u r INDIAN. and by the way do u think your negative opinions matter?? of cause not!! it‘s so funny how you keep insisting how "hollywood doesnt care.." but u accuse us of wanting their approval? aren‘t you the one whose trying to force us that if hollywood doesn‘t care then nor should us? guess what! we don‘t care whether hollywood cares or not! it‘s not us who needs their approval..its u! Being an Indian when i saw indianS at the golden globes and winning all those awards i just felt a sense of pride and happiness..thats it. it‘s natural to have those feeling when u see your people at international functions. i dont care if they hadn‘t won. who cares really?! no one. it‘s just a good feeling that they did..thats all. who cares whether it makes any difference to hollywood or not?! Pathetic wannabe like u!! that‘s the way u feel..not us..why are u force your feelings on to us? we have a mind of our own..unlike u! u don‘t have a sense of belonging so u have to authenticate everything by the whiteman. iam not degrading the whites but iam degrading u who does not even have a point of view of his own!! pathetic!!!! we love our indian culture, movies, music and everything indian and we dont fuken need anyones approval to prove that it‘s good because as someone already said..INDIANS ARE AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST!!! sid you‘re just one of those pathetic loser wannabes from an unstable family whose parents failed to teach him any cultural values and now u dont have any sense of belonging so u try oh so hard to be a whiteman. i feel sorry for u. i know your kind...you will watch all hindi movies, know the names of all indian actors and actress and read all about bollywood but still pretend as if u hate them and dont care. u will pretend not knowing hindi but have an indian accent. dude u need help...seriously u have issues...i suggest checking-in at a mental institution asap!! iam also an NRI and i was born here but it doesnt mean Iam ashamed of my people, my culture or my heritage. Every culture thinks they are the best so there‘s nothing wrong with us Indians believing that we are the best. It‘s called national pride u shitface but of cuz u wouldn‘t know since you are a tryhard wannabe who thinks he is white just cuz he happens to live overseas. there are millions and millions of NRIs in this world....your not lucky nor are you any special. You‘re just one of those millions so stop pretending as if you are better then everyone. Atleast we still have our cultural roots intack..what do u have? Your just a disturbed, mentally unstable outcast without a mind of his own.  | rach

Ohh please stop crying Sid we can‘t take it anymore lol. It‘s ok if you feel insecure and jealous of us Indians. Many people do :) and thanks for having such an interest in Indians and Bollywood!! But hey you don‘t have to be so ashamed of your own background and you certainly don‘t need to pretend to be Indian..You are not fooling anyone! Not eveyone is lucky enough to be Indian. You spend so much time on Indian sites maybe your tiny brain thinks you are an Indian but dear you are not...now now don‘t start sobbing again!! Maybe you should spend a lil of that time getting to know your own background then your tiny excuse of a brain won‘t be so confused. Your jealously only makes us stronger. You‘ve spent so much time and effort finding useless reasons to critisise us...wow!! we really must mean a lot to u huh! Thanks man!! It‘s hilarious when you haters become hopelessly desperate and frantically try everything in your books to prove yourselves right. Keep your comments coming!!!! Gives us something amusing to read and laugh at. Thanks man!! | Kash

Goshh Sid you really hate us Indian don‘t ya? I guess it‘s natural for haters. So tell me what was supposed to happen when Ash went on Oprah or when Lagaan was nominated for the Oscars? I don‘t think anyone expected the world to suddenly change and everyone to leave hollywood and start watching bollywood movies! Thats insane! Hollywood movies are in English which is the global language so obviously Hollywood has a bigger audience. Bollywood movies are in Hindi so the audience is mostly Indians and people who understand hindi. Nothing wrong with that. No one expected the huge change...did you? Seems you are dumber then I thought you were. There is also a Chinese movie industry but do you know ever hear about it or know any non chinese people who watch those movies? Jackie Chan, Lucy Lu and other Chinese actors are so huge in Hollywood but still people don‘t care about watching Chinese movies. Things don‘t work thats way Sid. But that doesn‘t mean these Asian actors are losers or their home country is useless! There is just this subtle understanding that these stars are from that respective country and it‘s just that knowledge thats needed. No one expects the whole world to start watching bollywood movies or start dancing to hindi songs after Slumdog‘s success. If you need that to consider something a success then you are the dumbest and the stupidest person ever! We all know its a hype and it will eventually die down when another movie successes. That happens to even the biggest hollywood movies and the biggest stars...but that doesnt mean we can‘t be happy ot proud for it! We don‘t expect this movie and these awards to bring about this huge change..it has just created an awereness in the world that there is also a huge movie industry in india and it‘s just something for us Indians to be happy about. Before people knew about Bollywood the only thing India was known for was poverty. Iam not saying that poverty is not an issue anymore...it still is but thats a different issue. So next time before trying to act all mighty knowledgable take a hard look at yourself in the mirror. People like you who try so hard to belittle others are losers themselves and always have to make others look bad. Slumdog Millionaire is a success whether you like it or not. It has Indian stars and we Indians are proud of it. I know you are desperately trying hard that Indians don‘t get the recognistion but it‘s just pathetic really. If we didnt matter (as you‘re try so hard to prove) then you wouldn‘t have to frantically post all these comments and fight with us did you? I mean do you think your comments on a website called "bombaybitch" even makes a difference? Really..are these hate comments supposed to make people not watch slumdog all of a sudden or start hating freida pinto..the actress of slumdog whome all the reviewers have written the best things about? Are all movie reviews supposed to change after ALL MIGHTY SID‘S comments?? Before telling us that we don‘t matter take a look at yourself and see how much you really matter..NONE WATSOEVER! But if it makes you feel better then I guess go on commenting..it might make you feel a bit better about your sickk life :D | shal

Another day another lot of haters in the form of Sid, Dhoomal etc. Oh well you know what they say..haters only hate the things they can‘t get and the people they can‘t be. So thanks for making us feel more special!! And please keep amusing us and making us feel more and more special with your presence :-) | meera

woOhOo!! well said kash, rach, shal. ditto to your comments. All I wanna add is that hating is the sincerest form of flattery. these hate comments from people like sid only assures us further how important we are to these racist haters. seems like they think about us every second of the day LoL. indians are the best....we rock all the way!!!!!!!!!!! | raashi

Love it!

Just love the song Jai Ho. It‘s really catchy absolutely love it! My British friends love it as well without even knowing the actual words (except jai ho :p) it‘s so funny when they try to sing along. anyways awesome movie..lovely song. A winner all the way! Well done to the makers and actors of this great movie.  | Sanya

Guys you scared Sid away hehehhehe. He ran away whining like a dog with his tail between his legs LMAO! Took rach‘s advice it seems and checked himself in a psycho hospital so won‘t be amusing us anymore with his bigoted comments..haha LMAO ROFL. | !

mehhh don‘t care much about ghai. his loss i guess. the song fits in real well in slumdog millionaire so its all good. and how great is this movie! like one of the best movies ever! people who‘re writing bad comments about it are probably just mad it‘s such a success. jealous jealous!! | raaz
