Three girls one guy, what else do you need?

Director: Siddharth Anand

Cast: Ranbir, Deepika, Bipasha, Minisha, Hiten

The Bitch‘s Verdict: Yash Raj hits the bulls‘ eye with this one.

Shahid Kapoor beware! Here comes Ranbir after you‘re a** to give you a run for your money. He‘s the new lover-boy in town, his biceps are not as ugly as yours and he sports a feeble six pack.
He‘s like what Shahrukh was in his younger days. The only difference is that this movie would have been considered as very bold during that era.
For a change The Bitch didn‘t crouch back into her seat and repent watching the movie more than thrice, as was the case with other Yash Raj releases this year.

They seem to have got the formula right with this one, thanks to a decent story by Adi Chopra and passable direction by Siddharth Raj Anand. But still everything‘s not hunky dory with the film, The Bitch is just happy at the fact that she had a good time.

If it weren‘t for the constant and nagging ad spots by Yash Raj of their older movies, such as using title tracks, using the word ‘tashan‘ all the time, theming the story with the first girl on DDLJ, even using the same country as a backdrop (Switzerland) and constantly reminding us about how Raj (DDLJ) has been the epitome of lover-boys in Hindi movies, the movie would have been more bearable.

But I guess after so many flops YR had no other option but to bring alive Raj again on the screen, for that‘s what Ranbir‘s charactes is named.
Though he is a complete jackass for the first half and does what the original Raj would have never done.

The thing that works are the dialogues and the witty, sarcastic humor which is intrinsic to every scene in the movie.

This really comes alive when the pair of Ranbir and Hiten Paintal is on screen, just like their fathers did long ago with ‘Rafooo Chakkar‘. Their chemistry is better than Ranbir‘s chemistry with any of the girls.

Hiten, till now a nobody and more of a social butterfly, can be groomed into a good character, humor artist if he chooses the right films, his dialogue delivery is impeccable.

Usually when a Bollywood film is shot in a foreign location it fails to bring it alive, but here that‘s not the case. The cinematography does justice to wherever the camera has been placed, be it the beaches of Australia or the narrow streets of Venice. Some of the scenes in Switzerland are so well shot that you feel like breaking your fixed deposit and giving the place a visit.

What don‘t work though are the songs and the length. Just as you start enjoying the movie there comes another song to break your pace.

There are two songs within a gap of 5 minutes, one with Minisha Lamba and the other focusing on Bips, if you can control your nerves and sit through these, then kudos to you. Apart from the title track and ‘lucky boy‘ none of them are catchy enough, you might enjoy ‘Khuda Jaane‘ if you are one of the lover boy/girl types yourself.

The length is another damper. What Adi should have done was taken a pair of scissors and just chopped off the real randomly, the film would have turned out to be just as nice.

An hour and a half into the movie and The Bitch was still waiting for the interval. Its 40 minutes too long!

The story rolls over 3 women in 12 years, and the only thing that changes with Ranbir‘s look is his hairstyle and spectacles.

Raj meets these three girls over a period of time. The first two he never really bothers about, breaks their hearts eventually and leaves them in a very bad condition.

It‘s only when the third girl breaks his heart, does he realize his mistake. Then the second half is all about him making amends and apologizing to the first two girls. If the story sounds soo long, just imagine how long the movie is.

Minisha is not the show stealer; in fact she has been sidelined in the promotions too. She is just too content with getting a Yash Raj movie.
In her first track she barely manages the look of a 17 year old, her face gives it up but her clothes and hairstyle, thanks to the designer, save her.
In her second track you can say she is pretty but it features more of her husband (surprise surprise Kunal Kapoor as a sardar, it‘s raining Sikhs at the box office these days) who does justice to his role. Overall both their market values are bound to increase post this.

Bipasha is the one to watch out for. Her first track is more about her perfectly toned body than her emotions, but damn her emotions. who needs them anyway after looking at her figure.

Her second track is more about her attitude as she is supposed to be a big model by then, she does manage to pull off a decent show of her acting skills.

There is something wrong with Deepika‘s accent, and I‘m not sure if everyone will notice that, apart from that she continues her performance from ‘Om shanti Om‘.

Her character is an independent girl, who drives taxi by the night, studies in the morning and takes notes on the stock market on overhearing passenger conversations. Since Ranbir and her share an of screen thing, they look much better than the others, but definitely not better than Ranbir and Hiten.

As mentioned earlier Ranbir is out there. Seems like the script was written keeping him in mind.
Looks like he wont have to go through the host of botchy movies which even a star kid has to experience. If only he could do something about his double chin he will look even yummier.

Overall definitely worth a watch, especially for guys, but only if you can handle three hours of in your face Ranbir Kapoor.

The bite and the bitchiness of previous reviews missing!!! | Bitch admirer

It was a nice movie and at least for once you liked a movie too and didn‘t bitch about it uselessly.  | Chintoo

Looks like the Bitch started to lick already. hey you do need some good spanking to be talking the truth!! Hello smitten by ranbir, man this guy looks like gay. Shheeeeeesh...... get a life.. | jetli

What a crappy review

Seems like BB also got into payroll of YR Films. I never read such a disgusting promotional review of an overall average movie. Movie is direct rip off of teen deviyan. Screenplay is very weak and movie is at least one hour too long. An absolute average movie like the ones that gets released every week. | nitin

lovd the rivw bitch! for once u likd smthg. I agree it was vry long, but ranbir was excllnt!! | Sunaina

The Bitch has LOST IT!

I saw the film on Sunday and towards the end of the show was laughing thinking about The Bitch will rip it apart! To my horror, The Bitch has given a glowing review (by its standards at least)

Clearly, the reviewer has changed and the new one is totally nuts---how else can Ranbir be compared to young Shahrukh! Ranbir is totally incompetent. Audience were laughing, jeering, yawning, and waiting for the film to be over.

Yash Raj has hit bulls eye with this film?--LOL. I used to rate bombaybitch.com as a site that gave reviews which can be banked on when it came to deciding on how to spend your hard earned money, but this breaks that reputation.

Hope The Bitch gets its act back together! | Mr.Inkenti

This has been one of your best reviews Bitch! I follow your reviews every Friday but have never commented yet.

I must say, I was surprised to read this one. It‘s easy to rip a film apart but its not easy to appreciate it‘s finer aspects, which is what you did here.

Comparing Ranbir and Hitens jodi with their fathers was innovative and brought out a new aspect of the film.

I saw the movie after later and came out more than satisfied.

Lets hope you appreciate talent instead of pulling it down in the future.  | Sneha

The movie is passable

It doesn‘t necessarily have to be constant bitching all the time.  | bombay bhelpuri

I normally take the bitch‘s review and then go watch a movie. But this time when I saw the review, I felt that yeah, this movie might actually be good. the songs are passable, so the movie might actually be watchable. To my disappointment, I found out that this movie was as bad as any other YR movie that have been coming out for the last two years now (except CDI). Ok, not as bad as Tashan or any such movie, but still not as good as the bitch praised about it.

And how in hell did you find Ranbir good looking in the movie. 10 minutes into the movie, I could not bare his face. I got nightmares after watching his face for 3 hours. First part of the movie is so badly acted out. Ranbir is such a SRK wanna be and just ends up overacting each part. The only good actors in the movie are Bipasha and Kunal Kapoor, and to some extend Minissha Lamba too. But the lead actors did the worst.

And there is no way YRF hits the bulls-eye with this one. All through the movie, I was thinking I would be happier going watching Singh is Kinng, atleast I will be entertained and laugh throughout the movie rather than sit here and watch this guy trying to act like SRK did in DDLJ. YR definitely needs to think out of the box and get some new concepts to get their movies working. But as of now, they have gone back to their biggest hit in more than a decade (DDLJ) and remade it with a little twist.

Please do not waste your time, money or your sanity and go watch this movie. Ranbir Kapoor is totally unbearable, script is weak, each story ends too quickly. I would rather watch God Tussi Great Ho, I am sure atleast Salman can entertain better, even when he overacts all the time. | canadian bitch
