Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi music is a throwback to melody

One red herring. Lata Mangaeshkar is thankfully not on the soundtrack. With due respect, it would have been offensive if she was singing for a sixteen year old. The Bitch would have to ask her to grow up.

I‘m okay with her yodelling the Yashraj banner in the theatres, which, every time it unfurls on the big screen, has had a soporific effect on me, I‘ve almost gone off to sleep when her alaap starts.

So here‘s the album of the year reviewed. Director-Aditya Chopra- Musicians-Salim-Sulaiman- Lyricist-Jaideep Sahni

Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai - The song starts with Roop Kumar Rathod eulogizing, ‘Tu hi meri Jannat, tu hi meri Mannat‘ and we have to give it to Shahrukh for tampering with the lyrics to insure his house, along with him is also featured in his films now. This is a staple Yashraj track with the usual santoor beginning, then the claps, the muffled jhankaar beats and the drum-dhol beats and a murli ki taan woven in to create a transcendental effect to this paean for lover as god.

Haule Haule - This is undoubtedly the best track to end the year with. ‘Haule haule‘ has the smoothness of a bend in the river as you flow with the genius stroke of Aditya Chopra who has cleverly shot the song in one take! See, the flow is not interrupted. The harmonium, which has come back, in small measure to Salim-Sulaiman who have been using it quite strongly last heard in ‘Aaja Nachle‘ is like the bars on a loom, piping a harmonious melody. Sukhwinder‘s ‘Haule haule‘ is here to stay.

Dance Pe Chance - I almost fell off my chair when Sunidhi started instructing ‘Left leg aage aage, right leg peeche peeche‘ in the beginning. I could imagine Anushka Sharma teaching Shahrukh Khan how to dance. This is going to look cute on screen. Then Labh Janjua broke on the dance floor with his Punjabi mix. It‘s a hotchpotch track, not very appealing to the ears, surely its going to be a comic relief number to watch out for.

Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte - Ha ha ha, what an irony. The song is titled after one of Shahrukh‘s films and one of Salman‘s. It is a fitting tribute to all the stars and films and songs of yesteryears. The lyrics of the song is an amusing mix of all films you can possibly think of. Remember the Kamal-Rati number in ‘Ek Duje Ke Liye‘, ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi Pyar Kiye Jaa‘. It‘s as much fun. This will be a great watch now that we know Rani-Kajol-Priyanka will be in it. The idea must have come while doing a medley number for one of SRK‘s stage shows.

Tujh Mein Rab Dikhta Hai - Shreya Ghoshal‘s dulcet voice breaks into an incantation which elevates this into a bhajan number. It‘s ridiculously short, under a minute and a half. The Bitch is guessing this will be used as a leitmotif in the film, every time the jodi is separated. "Ram milaye jodi...ek gaana poora, doosra adhoori-adhoori"

Dancing Jodi - Instrumental track like we heard in ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom‘ assorting all tracks in one piece. It‘s a mess. Strictly for warm up sessions at dance practises.

The Bitch‘s Verdict: Come December and this album will be the rage. Times have indeed changed since DDLJ; music too is in a hurry to complete itself. ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi‘ falls short in numbers. There‘s just not enough to please. Towards the end I felt cheated. Is this all there is to it?
