Gul Panag: Stuck in the boring mould |  2008-09-23

Sadly she doesn't even realize it!

Gul Panag is a dame who has had a rather insignificant career in B town.


First she tried hard to make an impact with a flop TV serial and arty-farty kind of films like ‘Dhoop‘, ‘Dor‘ and ‘Manorama 6 feet under.‘

When that didn‘t give her the required recognition, she decided to go glam in her upcoming films.

Maybe she‘s not learnt from the fact that showing off that extra large cleavage did nothing for her in the long forgotten Vikram Bhatt blunder ‘Jurm‘. Or for that matter, the fact that trying hard to play a hip college student in ‘Summer 2007‘ only made her a laughing stock.

Recently she posed in itsy bitsy outfits for Maxim and is busy bragging about it.

She has reportedly said, "When have I ever been the demure one in a sari or salwar kameez off screen? I have always dressed in my own way-whether it‘s short dresses or deep necks there‘s nothing new or different and certainly no ‘intention‘. In fact I wore a swimsuit way back in 1999 for Miss Universe"

Yeah sure, but you still don‘t realize that it has done you no good or got you what you are desperately looking for- attention!

Speaking of her forthcoming movies, there are two which sound exactly similar- ‘Hello‘ and ‘Hello Darling‘.

Umm... so finally there‘s something unique and novel about her films!

Tee Hee.

‘Hello‘ is based on Chetan Bhagat‘s novel ‘One Night at a Call Centre‘ and is backed by the ‘Khan‘daan (Sallu and co).

The film could have been promising but with a director like Atul Agnihotri ( Sallu‘s saala with a disastrous ‘Dil Ne Jise Aapna Kaha‘ behind him) and a thakela cast comprising of Sohail Khan, Sharman Joshi, Eesha Kopikar, Amrita Arora and Sharad Saxena, The Bitch doesn‘t have too many hopes.

As for ‘Hello Darling‘, it looks like yet another Mukta Arts disaster with losers like Celina Jaitly, Javed Jaffrey, Chunky Pandey and Eesha Koppikar( again!)

Maybe this common factor makes Gul extra protective of Eesha.

She says, "Eesha is extremely talented and hardworking. I got along well with her during ‘Hello‘ and got even closer during ‘Hello Darling‘. Yes, the shoot of Hello Darling‘ get delayed for lots of reasons, but it wasn‘t on account of her. She is too professional for that."

Umm...so its dumbness and bad career moves that bind these two dames!

Now since ‘Hello‘ is based on a call centre it‘s understandable that the makers decided to name it so.

But the Mukta Arts film is said to be a chick flick about girl power on the lines of ‘Charlie‘s Angels‘. So what‘s the ‘wise‘ idea behind calling it ‘Hello Darling‘?


To top it all, like ‘Hello‘, this movie too most probably has an office setup!

If these dames would have been smart enough, they could have at least tried to convince the makers to go for a name change. Obviously to avoid royally confusing the audiences!

Or were they so desperate for work that they grabbed whatever was offered to them. Beggars can‘t be choosers, eh?

As it is people don‘t like to watch their films, and with confusion of that sort, chances are it will be an outright reject.

But no, madam Gul is only interested in boasting about her so called ‘abilities‘.

She says, "I am fortunate that I have the image of a ‘good‘ and ‘credible‘ actor. And I would not want to change that. Actors take years trying to get that. As for glamour or the lack of it, I have to say it‘s a complete non issue for me when choosing my roles. And just because I‘ve done de glam roles in the past doesn‘t make Gul, the person, de glam. I am what I am-someone who is versatile enough to be able to carry off everything."

Gosh... somebody please tell this chick that glam or de glam, no one‘s really interested in watching or reveling in her antics!
