Kumar Sanu: Down and out | 2008-08-18
He experiences Bollywood hypocrisy big time!
There was a time when Kumar Sanu single-handedly ruled the male singers‘ arena in Bollywood for over a decade in spite of his unbearably irritating nasal singing.
He had even won a record 5 Filmfare Awards in a row!
But as it‘s said, all good things must come to an end!
In those days Anu Malik, Nadeem-Shravan and Anand Milind ruled the roost. But then they got pushed into oblivion by better talents like A.R. Rahman, Vishal-Shekhar and Shankar Ehsaan and Loy.
Under such circumstances, the demand for Sanu da also came down. Sonu Nigam, Shaan and K.K had taken over as the voices of the ruling stars of Bollywood and Kumar Sanu was left out in the lurch. Quite literally!
Out of job and bored sitting at home, Kedar Bhattacharya(that‘s his real name!) perhaps decided he would at least get a chance to sing finally if he produced his own film. With the limited budget he had in hand, he managed to make one B-grader ‘Utthan‘ (2006) with Neha Dhupia and Priyanshu Chatterjee in the lead.
Not surprisingly the film tanked at the B.O.
Now this guy made the silly mistake of daring to have the wannabe sex bomb Neha Dhupia in the role of a Saree clad pati vrata bhartiya naari and expected audiences to come and watch the film!
Anyways, with literally no new respectable singing offers in 2008, Kumar Sanu decided to take yet another chance. He decided to make a bigger film than his first one. He managed to find for himself a bakra who was willing to pump in Rs. 20 crore into the film provided Sanu da used his old contacts and roped in at least one A-list star in the film!
The first star Sanu da tried approaching was Shah Rukh Khan. After all SRK‘s biggest blockbusters back then, ‘Baazigar‘ and ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge‘ had him crooning for the Badshah Khan. But SRK simply refused to even answer back his calls or SMSes. Sanu da didn‘t even get an appointment with the superstar!
Dejected, Sanu da then decided to approach Salman Khan. Salman, The Bitch, learnt was cordial enough to meet him and hear out his proposal but after that was done, he put forth the usual busy dates excuse and excused himself out!
He then went to meet Sanjay Dutt who again gave him the same ‘dates blocked‘ excuse. Even newcomers like Neil Nitin Mukesh, Ranbir Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi refused to show any interest.
The Bitch has learnt that a totally disillusioned Sanu da is now planning to scrap his dream proposal completely!
He is extremely hurt that there was a time when each and every hero would force his makers and the music directors to get him in their projects but now he is just considered as a ‘has been‘!
And The Bitch thought that after so many years Sanu da would very well know that B-Town has always been like that.
