Men In Tights |  2008-10-31

Which of these men is Bollywood's fashion icon?

In the last edition, I had expressed my opinion on the future female fashion icon of Bollywood. This week, I am out to do a research on the future Bollywood male fashion torch bearer.

Coming to style, Feroze Khan was one man, who was known more for his style, scarves, and fedoras, than as an actor. However, personally, I feel, men often screw up, when they try too hard to look stylish with excessive accessories.

Anil Kapoor was a good and mature actor, but off-screen, he looked like a usual rich man without any extra-ordinary sense of style.

Jackie Shroff was one actor who looked good in all outfits, from an Indian dhoti to a suit, and a casual jacket and torn jeans.

Have any of our current lot of actors been able to inherit his sense of style?

Hrithik was the first actor, out of the current generation, who tried to imbibe style in his dressing, along with his attitude. His tee-shirts headers, jackets...all looked stylish, and suited his age and character. He looked like a perfect style icon in Dhoom 2 as well.

However, his fedora acts in recent parties, after ‘Krazzy 4‘, has not been upto the mark. His dressing portrays lack of intelligence.

Abhishek Bachchan perhaps, according to me, looks classier, when it comes to dressing, with his elegant suits. It gives him a subtle, gentle and mature look although it will benifit him to wear Italian cut suits which will define his broad frame with a leaner disposition.

Emraan Hashmi‘s sense of style reflects a flamboyant attitude, with those fancy jackets and tee-shirts. Nothing to write home about.

Imraan Khan is cute, but at times, his style goes for a toss. The suit, for instance in the picture looks classy, but the colour leaves a lot for acquired taste. I don‘t think I can make him the torch bearer.

Neil Nitin Mukesh displays a good taste, when it comes to clothes. His dark colour tee shirts, with a pair of denims, and a blazer makes him look like a cute dude.

Personally John Abraham is my favourite and he has also come out with a line of his clothing which reflects his personal style. He is a strong contender to be the fashion icon for this generation.

On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor dropped his towel in ‘Saawariya‘ and still looked good in his B‘day suit. Although too much skin show from men is a turn off. He has otherwise inherited the style of the Kapoor Khandaan which I saw in ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno‘.

But I think, I really get confused at times. As it is its difficult to understand men‘s fashion and distinguish one from another. The same old jackets, denims, tee-shirts, they almost look the same.

I thought I liked Shahid kapoor with his dark coloured jackets and tee-shirts, however haven‘t seen him much in suits. So I wonder if he is capable of carrying all kinds of attires.

Can‘t really name any one of them in particular. Can you guys help me out?

I personally think ranbir knows how to dress. He‘s preppy!!!!

Hrithik: is just blah, never liked his sense of style. too desi for me
Emraan: looks like a teenager.
Abhishek: looks good ONLY in a suit... nothing else!
Shahid: always seems to wear tight tees, almost like priyanka with her clothes LOL.
John: like this clothes but not as much as ranbir‘s.
Imran and Neil: haven‘t seen much of them to give my opinion :)

I do like the way akshay kumar (not mentioned in the article) dresses up though...  | Krishna

i like john and ranbir...they are definitely the most stylish out of the bunch...however if i had to pick i would pick john, his sense of fashion is effortless, whatever he wears looks good on him whereas ranbir is more of a cutesy preppy dresser. i vote for john all the way!! | rhythm

I think shahid looks the most stylish and john is quite sexy. | Smiley

Ms.

I think over the years Akshay Kumar has evolved and I personally do admire his sense of style and his has the attitude to go with it...

I believe his a strong contender...dont u think? | RONI

Saif Ali Khan is the perfect clothes horse. He can carry off anything and make it look good, like a pink tank t-shirt or an Armani suit, he looks dapper and displays great sense of style.

I would also pick Amitabh Bachan because nobody injects personality into a suit or a bandhgala than Mr Bachan does. He can wear crazy clothes in some stupid films and still not look silly! Amitabh Bachan could also be a style icon.

And when we have Amitabh, can Shah Rukh Khan be left behind? The man looks so dishy in a simple black shirt and black pants. He has that relaxed, unbothered attitude towards clothes which makes him a winner for his easy effortless style.  | Annie

my vote goes for shahrukh khan!! | orrraa

I think SRK is a good dresser. He looks most handsome with his tailored pants and tee shirt look. Actually he looks good in almost anything.  | Eliza

I‘m a big fan of Hrithik but over the last two years, his look has become too feminine for me. I don‘t really like Saif as an actor, but he always looks sharp and so does the Big B....he can teach these young hunks a thing or two. Why do the men wear these bright color pants, is it an Indian thing??? | JH

Srk‘s dress sense sucks !

SRK dresses like a f*rt !! whoever says they like his dressin sense are f*rts themselves !!! which superstar wears a waxed cleavage showing lycra tee to a dance show ....all clean shaven and wearng a Dolce & Gabbana cap with a metallic chain hanging from it .....? aarghhhhh....cud it et more wannabe than this ????

crap !  | Megh
