The music of Luck By Chance needs a good luck fairy to bless it
What is with Bollywood in 2009? Where are the new sounds?
‘Luck By Chance‘ is touted to be one of the biggest releases in Jan and the music is barely out, no one is talking about it, there‘s no promotion.
With such a low profile music launch, will ‘Luck By Chance‘ depend solely on its luck or chance to make a big impression?
The Bitch decided to be the first to strike on their luck, not by chance!
Here‘s the music review of one of the biggest soundtracks of 2009 not heard of yet.
Yeh Zindagi Bhi - Staccato beats start this song on a quiet note which will remind you just a wee-bit of ‘Kaisi Hai Yeh Ruth‘ from ‘Dil Chahta Hai‘. How, how can it not be deja vu when it‘s Shankar-Ehsan-Loy-Javed Akhtar and Farhan actor! It‘s about touching the stars, sung by Loy and Shekhar Ravjiani. You‘ve heard it all before, but its here because it‘s ringing a new bell. The ‘choo le‘ refrain will get to you. The song also reminded me when SEL did a version, not ‘remix‘ as they claimed then, of ‘Dil Kya Kare‘ from ‘Julie‘ for their Instant Karma band which has more or less disbanded now.
Bawre - A chap announces in his paan chewed musky voice that he‘s lost it, ‘hosh bhi hara josh bhi hara‘ where josh sounds like ‘juice bhi hara‘. When he‘s done, the whistles from ‘Bunty Aur Babli‘ set the stage for a dhamaal ‘dhol tamasha doodh batasha‘ raunchy nautanki number. It doesn‘t have the namak of ‘Beedi Jaliale‘ because mid-way it breaks into a different jig altogether and breaks the nuance of jhatak-matak. But before it ends, they piece it back with pots and pans. All of the kitchen utensils have been used as accompaniments in this housedown number.
Pyaar Ki Dastaan - Why do I think of Ash when Mahalakshmi Iyer sings for SEL? Something to do with ‘Aao na‘ from ‘Kyon Ho Gaya Na‘ which is stuck. Piano, wind chimes, sounds of the air, with words like ‘mehak‘ ‘fiza‘ tossing pillow feathers in the citrusy dawn, and there, Ash has stepped out of the clouds! I hope to see Isha Shravani do a decent footwork job with this song, not Konkona killing it with a cup of tea at her window gleaming her polished happy dents!
Yeh Aaj Kya Ho Gaya - Sunidhi Chauhan tries her best to a number that sounds at first like a demo tape with some amateurish easy singing. Nothing to really sing about, she should have stopped to refine it. In about 3 minutes, the song is over and the feeling is, "Are we done?" "Oh yes!" Let‘s wait for the music video for this one, hopefully not shot at Hiranandani Gardens to express a young woman‘s breaking free moment. So totally original that will be.
Sapnon Se Bhare Naina - Shankar Mahadevan reserves the rights to sing the best tracks. This is ‘smack my bitch up‘ hot if Prodigy were to produce a Hindi track. Wondefully fuses western instruments with Indian vocals, in the way Rahat Fateh Ali elevated ‘Naina Thug Lenge‘ in ‘Omkara‘ to a divine trance call.
O Rahi Re - Shankar and the staple song for the road. Did you notice, most of the tracks are about soul searching. Here you have to tie your bundle at a stick end and hit the highway with your ear phones glued in to your full volumed i-pod. Don‘t take it off till you reach your destination, which I guess is nowhere, so the song can stay on forever. Shaan had this one hit he could never eclipse, ‘Tanha Dil‘. This is that great if you cannot outgrow the habit.
Bawre (Remix) - Noise.
One of the better thought out works this year, since SEL also have ‘Chandni Chowk To China‘ in Jan. The music of which was reviewed by The Bitch previously.
Too early to give it stars since the team has done nothing to promote the music in advance. It‘s up to you to stumble on this ‘Luck By Chance‘.
