Before Pritam was declared the King of Copy Cats, Anu Malik was the king of that arena!
For a long time he has been lying low, what with cheaper and better tune ‘lifters‘ making their foray into Bollywood.
Well, not to be left back behind, he‘s back with a bang!
Perhaps for the first time in his career, Anu Malik will be having two films released on the same Friday - ‘Mission Istaanbul‘ and ‘Ugly Aur Pagli‘.
The Bitch caught up with the ‘veteran‘ music director for a little chit chat.
The Bitch- The biggest bomb of 2008, ‘Love Story 2050‘ had your music. What do you have to say about it?
Anu Malik- I can‘t comment about its trade aspects but the music of the film is a big hit. It was not an easy task to give music to a sci-fi romantic film. I had to keep many things in mind while composing its tunes. I knew for sure that Harman Baweja is a very good dancer, so the two songs - Sach Kehna and Milo Na Milo were composed in such a way by me that his dancing skills would be exhibited at its best.
The Bitch- Come on, you are already negotiating for their next film!! But yeah, probably these two songs were the good things about this cold turkey!
The Bitch- You made your underage (17 year old) daughter, Anmol sing the song Main Talli Ho Gayi for the Mallika Sherawat starrer ‘Ugly Aur Pagli‘. Are you nuts?
Anu Malik- That song is already a super hit in such a quick time. See, I consider Mallika my lucky charm. Remember ‘Murder‘? One of the best film albums of my career was with her. My two upcoming releases, ‘Ugly Aur Pagli‘ and ‘Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam‘, both have Mallika in the lead. My daughter had earlier sung a song for J.P. Dutta‘s ‘Umrao Jaan‘. She is just stepping into the industry and I felt Mallika would prove lucky for her too. The song is already topping the charts, so my intuition has worked!!
The Bitch- Your daughter should have said Mere Baap Pehla Aap! Your voice suits Mallika better than hers!! The Bitch would have laughed her a** off hearing the Hard Kaur and Anu Malik combo singing together!
The Bitch- Your other film, ‘Mission Istaanbul‘s music is not so happening...
Anu Malik- I wouldn‘t like to believe that! See, the film is an out and out action thriller, so sometimes it takes time for the songs to grow on the listeners. The title song is doing well, I‘m sure.
The Bitch- At the first press conference of the film, we saw you sitting glumly on the dais what with no one asking you a single question! That explained all.
The Bitch- What would you to say about the recent Shinjani case? The judges were harsh like you on the poor girl who ended up losing her voice!
Anu Malik- I haven‘t seen that particular episode, so I can‘t exactly comment about this incident. But I have always been criticized for being harsh with my comments too. Perhaps that is because I take my job as a judge very seriously. It is my duty to tell the contestants on their face what is right and what is wrong! If I was bad, I wouldn‘t have been selected for the fourth consecutive time as the judge of Indian Idol. I also feel you need to be very strong as a person to participate in reality shows and be willing to accept honest comments by judges.
The Bitch- Mr. Copy Cat, wouldn‘t it be better if you admit that you‘re trying to be like American Idol judge, Simon Cowell who is famous for his bitingly critical comments and attitude?
The Bitch- What other future releases will have your unmelodious music?
Anu Malik- I have the Harman Baweja-Amrita Rao starrer ‘Victory‘ and one of the biggest films of 2008, ‘Kambaqqt Ishq‘ starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor with Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Swarzaneggar and Denise Richards making appearances in it.
The Bitch- The Bitch is praying hard and hoping that you haven‘t lip synced for any song of Stallone or Arnie or else Hollywood would ban Bollywood forever!
