Thodi Life Thoda Magic |  2008-07-01

Even writing this review was a pain!

Director: Anand Rai

Cast: Jackie Shroff, Meera Vasudevan, Sahil Chadha

The Bitch‘s Verdict: Just plain horrible

It‘s hard to believe that a guy like Anand Rai who directed ‘Strangers‘ churned out this movie too. Instead of progressing he has regressed even further back. From the first till the last scene, the only question constant in your mind is ‘what the hell is going on.‘

It‘s one of those badly directed movies, which even a layman can find faults with without even trying to. It seems like a patchwork of different scenes, shot over a period of time without giving continuity even a thought. Plus the actors make the ordeal even more miserable for you. All of them fail to make an impression, including Jackie Shroff.

It‘s a good thing that Yash Raj hijacked all the multiplexes for ‘Thoda pyar, thoda magic‘, for this movie is playing only in a handful of single screen theaters.

The story goes like this. MK (Jaggu dada) is a strange guy, who plays cricket with children and takes random walks on marine drive. Where does he get money from? Where does he stay? All these questions about him are never answered.

Surprisingly both our protagonists have noticed MK on different instances and remember him too, which comes across as very absurd.

The producer himself, Saahil Chaddi errr Chadha, in a desperate effort to save money, acts himself in the movie. He is the creative director of an agency on the lookout for a face to host his next show.

On the other side Naina Jasraj (Meera Vasudevan), again a very bad characterization is having a tough time in her relationship with Arbaaz Khan for some useless reasons. She joins Chaddi as a freelance writer.

Finally these two idiots select MK as the face to host their show, because of his problem solving abilities in a unique way. Frankly no-one in their sane minds would like a psycho like this to solve their problems; that too live on national television.

Moving on, MK‘s show gets famous and that‘s when your brain stops functioning, for your benefit, to whatever is happing on the screen. All you see is a collage of images, making no sense at all.

There is a huge list of mistakes but what‘s the point. You can see the movie either way from beginning to the end or from the end to the beginning, and still it will make the same amount of sense.

Arbaaz Khan is as pathetic as usual and carries the same expression throughout the movie. Anita Raj and Parmeet Sethi are plain boring. The girl Meera, who shifts betweensalwar kameezand spaghetti tops can‘t stop crying through the movie. Saahil Chaddi should concentrate on producing more than acting.

As for Jaggu dada...well, we really hope he succeeds in what he is trying to achieve by doing such movies.
