When you have Gulzar on board with Rahman and Ghai wielding the musical jugalbandi, fireflies will leave the sound recording room screaming, "It‘s Brilliant, the music is Heaven."
The Bitch decided to check it herself, and give you a lowdown on the musical release of the year. The music has been launched today and The Bitch is no stranger to being the first to report.
Enjoy as I bring you a review of all the tracks, in order of no preference.
01 Main Hoon Yuvvraaj---The first track is Salman Khan apologizing to Beethoven for lifting his tune. Cough, cough!
In his trademark unapologetic soliloquy, he proclaims to be ‘Yuvvraaj‘, the superstar. Needless to say, this intro track to the music of ‘Yuvvraaj‘ is a dampener. Beethoven is glad he went deaf to his grave; he will not have to wake up to Rahman-Salman botching up his symphony. Sacrilege!
02 Tu Meri Dost Hain---Rahman ooooh‘s the track to start with, then some Enya chicks warble in to create a breezy atmoshphere.
Benny Dayal, a new singer sings about how he wants to take his friend in his arms, up in the air, no silly not legs up in the air.
Shreya Ghoshal then cascades down on him like a gentle waterfall, and then the two singers make music about flying in the distance.
The scale of the song has a slow sa-re-ga-ma-pa tempo and the orchestration of sounds nurtures a melody which has a lilting effect although it ends on a rather unfinished discordant note, which will make you rewind to see if you have missed anything. This track will climb up.
03 Shano Shano---Bad, bad, bad. This song reminds me of the eighties jhinga lala days. There‘s some ‘Bunty Aur Babli‘ rap, some voodoo lyrics, some looking at the disco ball in the discotheque and imagining the moon, then some ‘It‘s the time to disco‘, and then mid way it sounds like ‘Saathiya‘s‘ Chori-chori number running on a very slow treadmill.
Complete cacophony, can‘t tell one singer from the other, and there are 7 singers on this one. They keep encoring Shano Shano in such a weird accent it tends to sound like Aye Shyyaney. There‘s even a strangled Usha Uthup voice cowering to be rescued.
04 Tu Muskura---Alka in her syrupy sweet voice beseeches you to smile with a heavy heart. Somehow the song does not begin with the lightness associated with the activity of smiling. She sounds school-marmish, ordering us to smile, with a baton which will politely beat you if you don‘t muskura.
Again, the song has a towering crescendo in a low pitch, like a creeper, climbing up. Isn‘t that emblematic of every symphony piece? Javed Ali chips in between her rendition as a chorus boy. A passable track.
05 Mastam Mastam--- Billi ki khaal hai, cheetah ki chaal hai -the lyrics clearly indicate this song is for the baccha log. It‘s no match to the ‘Mr Natwarlal‘ song, Mere paas aao mere doston, ek kissa suno where Mr Bachchan narrates a jungle tale to some children.
It was one of the most memorable songs we baccha log heard in our day. Mastam mastam in being grand in orchestration, forgets to tug at the heart strings.
06 Zindagi---Now here is a staple Rahman thanda track, so icy cool that while it soothes you to sit back and get on with changing your pillow covers on a Sunday morning, it never rises to the occasion to throw you up from your cosy bed and make yourself a cup of invigorating oolong tea. This song has an immediate ‘Swades‘ hangover. Disappointing!
07 Dil Ka Rishta---Why can‘t Subash Ghai give Hinglish a rest? Remember "oh bloody, oh bladda" in the song Kisi roz unse mulaqat hogi from ‘Pardes‘. The chorus went something like this, ‘oh bloody dee dee oh bladaa daa daa oh bloddu du du what to do!‘
I seriously didn‘t know what to do with my bladder full. Now in Dil Ka Rishta, the lyric goes, ‘Passion...and Agression...can I leave it somewhere?‘
Please Mr Ghai, leave it somewhere, Nri‘s don‘t sing like that neither do humans. Mercy lord!!!
08 Manmohini Morey---This one is like some gharana ka begaana was asked to sing to electronic music, which he did, no questions asked.
In the middle of the night when Rahman makes you sing, you don‘t refuse, you sleep walk through your rendition. Rest is his headache, sleep well after the recording.
The Bitch couldn‘t decide where this semi-classical, new-age fusion belongs to. A lounge bar or a nritya ashram and yet its like the Chinese sweeping across The Wall in search of a landing pad.
09 Shano Remix---Same as number 3 above. Make that worse! There‘s a line in this remix, ‘I‘m looking for my number 1 fan.‘ Ah well, we have all gone underground. Kya Shyyaney!
Subhash Ghai says the film is about the arrogance and overconfidence of contemporary youth. "Everyone wants to be a rock star, regardless of whether they have the morals to go with the appellation."
Whatever that‘s supposed to mean, morals to go with the ‘appellation‘...big words Mr Ghai. Yuvvraaj has flop written all over it if the music is any ‘affirmation‘ to go by.
Thank you for tuning out.

I admire your writing skill, but why should you kill the prospects of a major release just because you do not like the director or the actress in the film? Every film..good, bad, or indifferent...deserves a chance..so give it a chance. Its your job to critique it after it releases. As for the music, this is a completely European OST. I have studied European culture extensively and can easily identify with the music. An AMADEUS-style musical is unheard of in India. I admire Ghai for making an attempt. Yes, whether this stuff will match up to Hi-mess bha‘s Tandoori Nights remains to be seen. If that Indian factor plays on your mind, you will never be able to enjoy this stuff. Thats the major limitation of this awesome soundtrack. | devilrocks
Dear Bitch, you dont have to bitch about everything just because you are a bitch, i think the music is good and AR Rahman has done a good job, film might flop but music will be a big hit | Bitch Killer

awesome music
I was utterly disappointed when i first listened to the whole album. It was as if it wasnt Rahman after ‘tu hi tho meri dost hain’. But i remember I had experienced similar emotions when i first heard ‘dil se’ .. i thought the album just went downhill after ‘chaiyya chaiyya’ .. but we all know it’s probably arr’s best album ever. Anyway, coming back to yuvvraaj, i persisted with this album, listening to it many times in my car and guess what I think i’ve started to like this album a lot, yes including Shano Shano. We all have learned we should let arr’s music grow on us and not be critical of it as soon as we finish first hearing.
arr’s albums take a while to pick up pace and they remain memorable even some years down the line. I would give this an 8 .. may be more as time passes and I discover newer things in the album.. I’m sure there’s more...
